putting addition on coop

Thank YOu soo much for your kind comments. I want more chickens! You have a very impressive Flock! I am going to see your page. I think instead of putting the new ones in the same coop, we will build another coop and they can meet each other out in the yard during free range time. Do you think they will fight? like rival gangs? LOL, hope not. We found a LIL TIKES Log cabin playhouse, [which i saw some one use in coop designs here in BYC], on the side of the road .. just waiting for me to find! I immediatly ran home and told hubs to get the van.. as he rolled his eyes in that " OH NO, what now" way.. we went and picked it up... and pressure washed w/ bleach. Now it is waiting to be turned into a coop. It seem s silly to me in a way, when i know there is plenty of room in our existing coop. But the log cabin is so cute, and i am afraid to introduce new chickens when the others have had the coop ALL to themselves for a year now. How do you intro new chicks?

I havent exactly introduced new chicks yet to any others into the same coop. I have only had free range time with all my layers meat chickens and turkeys out in the yard together and everyone has always done fine. They mingle together but tend to stay close to each of their own flocks. Even if you wanted to add new chicks to your existing coop you could do the same and do supervised freerange time for a little while until they are accustomed to eachother. In about 4-5 weeks will be my first time intergrating 2 flocks together for the same coop. Im not nervous about it. Ive also seen people use the plastic playhouses for coops even old wooden swing sets. They are both cute ideas. And I see no reason to have 2 seperate flocks for now and maybe one day when they like eachother you can put them all together in the big coop and move new ones into the log cabin

Thank you both very much!!! Its super cute like a little cottage.

Im working on it more right now just taking a tiny break. Does any one have any color suggestions? Ill post pics of my other coop colors and my house color later. I want something fun but matchy.

So here are a few updated photos. We have done more work since these pics but I havent taken new pics since. The Japanese bantams have moved in and are doing great in the new house and run. We are doing a little more work on it today and I will take new pics.

All is done on the coop and run, I just have to shingle the roof tomorrow. And then soon I will add a few finishing touches like decorative rocks to fill the gardenstone area to cover the apron of hardware cloth. And maybe a light like a porch light and eventually a small weathervane on the roof. Does anyone have any suggestions on something else That might look nice or anything I should add or anything I might be missing.

I am new to all of this, but your coop is looking awesome!

Are you staying with the "dirt" run or are you thinking of using sand? Have heard/seen alot of others using that medium and having very good results..easy clean-up. Anything thing that makes my life easier is good-to-go..

Have you givin any thought to what you are planting around your coop? I really like that idea of a "bed" around the perimeter..maybe have to borrow that one! Cute girls too!!
