I free range my flock - does anyone know if I can safely lime my pastures or will my chickens be harmed free ranging in freshly limed pastures?
Thanks!

Grandad and them used to lime the pens when he was younger to help with any problems and deter snakes.. So I don't see why it would be an issue

Is it ag lime or hydrated lime? If it's hydrated, it does have corrosive properties and it very well can harm chickens. If it is ag lime, then it is perfectly safe, and I use it in my chicken's bedding.

Hmmm... I will have to do more research - but it sounds like you gave me what I need to look for ShawnaScott... We have a wood stove so we use the ash from that in the coop and run - and on the pasture too.... but I think I need more concentrated doses in the pasture to actually improve the growing conditions for grass.
thanx!
