Putting eggs in the bator on July 25, does anyone wanna hatch along???

YAAAAAUUGH!!! ACK! Oh gosh, litljenary, how are they and you doing this morning??? That's terrifying.

Now you've got me thinking -- little battery-operated heater in case of emergency... I wonder if they make those. Wouldn't be a bad thing to have!

One of the homemade bator pages has a tutorial on how to convert yours to run on dc in the car. I laughed at it and asked my husband why in the world I would want to incubate eggs in my car....jokes on me I guess.

The power was out from 1:40am to 3:55am. I hope it wasn't too bad. The cochin is back in lockdown and I haven't opened the other incubator. The temps were back stable by 5am. I'm due to move a few others into lockdown when this egg hatches on Tuesday or so and I will candle then.

When my other cochin egg died I think it was either from temps or too much handling so I'm not touching the rest of these if I can help it. My candling addiction ended with my favorite egg dying. :(

By the way, on the current topic, I'm 31.

Yeah, I broke one!!!

Still glad I candled a lot, though -- I now know what a healthy egg should look like at just about any stage of development. (Not glad I fumble-fingered and broke one, though!)

I have questions about the two with the teeny air sacs and the really dark interior -- although I did see veins still -- I don't think I'll know what's up with them till hatch. So I satisfied my yearn to learn

and won't be candling that much in the future (I never planned to). But oh my gosh it's the neatest thing watching them kick!

I've been having some temperature fluctuations here, too -- struggling to keep my 'bator at an even 99.5 (well, the water wiggler at 99.5). Luckily by now I suspect they're either good or they're not, big enough not to be damaged by a .5 shift in temperature. I hope!

And I'll be hoping for yours! Thinking nice warm happy thoughts at your eggies!!! For what it's worth, I suspect they're a lot more sturdy at this stage of development than when they're teeny little embryos.

I bet there okay the power outage was so short. Chickens get off there eggs sometimes when sitting. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Its kind of neat I think a lot of us on here are kind of close in age.

Sorry about your little egg that broke.

I don't think a .5 temp change will make a difference. I could be wrong but, I wouldn't worry about it. If you aren't in lock down just yet I would put a little star on the eggs with a small air sac with a pencil so you can see if they hatch or not. It will be a learning experience and I know you like to learn. Even if they don't hatch if they have veins I wouldn't throw them out anyway, in the future I would still leave an egg that looks like that in all the way through hatch.

I tell you I think I have learned one very important thing this hatch and that is to always check you water at least every day. Accidentally having your humidity bottom out at about day four is a very bad thing. I lost 10 eggs in the beginning and I think at least half were due to the humidity drop. I know you like to learn so I thought I would share the knowledge I learned this hatch.

Warm thoughts for your eggies too.

WOOT WOOT!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited, I have some rockers. A Coronation Sussex, two White Ameraucas, and my Birchen Maran/ Tolbunt are rockin.

Nothing grew in 4 out of 5 of my Birchen Maran/ Tolbunts and I really wasn't sure how this last one was doing. That egg is so big and dark and beautiful and very hard to candle. I could tell the air sac was pretty big and shaped kind of irregular. So I thought that little one might not be okay. Its mine and my seven year olds favorite cause, it is so big and pretty. Well when I went and looked at them tonight it was rocking. WOOT WOOT!!!! It was rocking so hard it almost flipped all the way over. I am so happy its alive, I really didn't think it was and I have been walking around my house all night giving high five and saying WOOT WOOT!!!!!! I am sooooooo excited. Since it is are only one of that kind we need some serious pullet vibes.
