Putting eggs in the bator on July 25, does anyone wanna hatch along???

The circle (s) sound like the air cel to me. Yes, you need a pretty bright flashlight...I have an LED one which is wonderful for the job. The darker the room is the better, too, you're right. Give them another few days, and check again. I bet you'll see them growing :D

I found a much brighter light, still not bright enough but worked WAY better.

Oddly enough, it was my cell phone flashlight. (My android phone has a flashlight app)

I only candled the 7 cochins and one of the polish, mainly to show my husband the difference between candling a brown egg and a white egg.

I have 2 that look great. Exactly like they look in pictures. One has way more veins than the other but overall I'm confident that they are growing. I have two that are dead for sure. One you can see the air cell move when you turn the egg and one has a little fleck of something that is floating around in it but it's probably bacteria and nevertheless not a chick. The other three I'm not sure about. The shells are darker than the others and I can make out anything clearly enough to say yeah or nah. One of those I think I saw veining but I'm just not sure.
The polish has an air cell and a darker area just below it. It was easy to see. These are about 30 hours in the bator so I think it looks good so far.

I'm letting the two dead ones sit in the bator until day 8 when I told my kids we were candling. My kids didn't know I candled tonight and they are so excited about doing it that I would break their little hearts. At least they won't be disappointed that we can't see anything because now I know that I need a way better light and set up than I had planned to use. I'll have it perfected and ready for them by Wednesday.

I was thinking the same thing but my concern was that the ones coming on the 30th would be shipped. I'm in Florida and the outdoor temps have been 90+ and I'm not home to pick up eggs. They would be sitting at least 4 hours in the sun on my doorstep.

They came today and it was just what I thought. I picked up from the post office and they had included a cold pack but even the cold pack was warm when I got them. So I set them in a carton next to the incubator for roughly 4 hours and then they went into the bator.

I'm going to try to borrow or buy another incubator to hatch in.

On a side note, I'm a bit disappointed in the "assortment" from My Pet Chicken which was only three different breeds. They sent 14 eggs, 10 small white ones marked "po", 2 large brown eggs marked "slw", one blue and one green both marked "eew". My guess is 10 polish, 2 silver laced wyandottes, and 2 easter eggers.

When are you suppose to get your last batch of eggs? If you end up using the same bator I would just put the last ones in on the 2nd and then everyone should be fine. The ones from the 28th should have just finished hatching and you should have time to get them out before the others start pipping. In the future they say when you order eggs in the mail put them in a egg carton large side of the egg up and keep them in a cool place and let them sit for twenty four hours before putting them in the bator. They say to let them sit so they can settle so that the air sac will be on the right end of the egg. Now I don't know how true that is but, all the people that are more experienced them me say that is the way to do it. :0)

I am sure your little ones will be okay. I bet the heat won't affect them that much. When chickens do it natural their eggs are outside in the heat before they get started. If I had to guess if it wasn't hotter then a 100 they should be fine. I mean that is what we put them in the bator at. :0)

Good luck

I held off candling anything until tonight and I shouldn't have. I very simply used a cheap-o flashlight and my hand. The first one I saw what looked like two circles in the large end of the egg. The second looked like the same. Third the same. The fourth had a circle at the end and a small dark area near the center of the egg. All I saw in the fourth was a single circle at the large end of egg. Then I stopped.

I need a brighter light, a darker room, or something. I didn't see anything that looked anything like the candling pictures I see on here. No veins in anything. It should be day 4/5, been in the incubator for 100 hours.

sigh
My guess is maybe your flash light is not good enough or the room is not dark enough. I took me a few different tries with different lights and different spots in my house before I found one that worked. Believe it or not I have to candle in my pantry for it to be dark enough. He He!!!! Hey whatever works. Do you have enough room in your bator to put the eggs that you just got in the mail inside an egg carton? Just thinkin it sure couldn't hurt for you to be able to put them in the position with the large end up, well at least for a little while anyway. I know you will have to flip them but maybe if during ever other turn you put big end up for a day or so maybe that will help with your eggs cells.

Anyone else have any input on this if you don't let eggs set big end up for 24 hours before putting them in the bator does this possibly sound like a good idea? Maybe someone else will put in some input on this.

:)

The stupid humidity on my bator bottomed out, I am sooooooo mad about this. These eggs are from three different breeders it cost me close to 100 bucks. This is a small investment, awwe this just erks me.

It had been staying at about a steady 65% humidity and then when I went in to check in the morning it had dropped to 22% during the night. I have never had this happen before and don't know what the chances are for my eggs now.
