Putting eggs in the bator on July 25, does anyone wanna hatch along???

My tracking number finally came. The order from MPC left the hatchery on the 26th. Coming from Arkansas, so my guess is Monday. Also getting some local barnyard mixes on August 1.

So, I'll have:
7 Red Cochin- set 7/26
12+ assorted breeds- set 7/30
12 mixed- set 8/1
Litljenarey, do you raise chicks for sale? Or sell the eggs? I'm having to restrain myself -- I've really already got as many chickens as I need for myself. They keep me and my landlady in eggs very well

But I'm really tempted to get some marans hens to go with my CR roo and start a second flock, just for the heck of it. Maybe I could sell started pullets and cull the roos???

You don't want to open it when they are pipped because, you might shrink wrap them. Anyway just a suggestion.

Oh, that's fascinating! Not in a good way, just in that scientific "Oh, so THAT's why that happens" way -- I knew you shouldn't open the 'bator till they were all hatched, dry and fuzzy, but I didn't know why. Cold air/membrane shrinkage? Or is it the sudden draft of dry air?

65% is way too high for the first 18 days of incubation.

Eek. Well, I'll just have to wait and see... Right now there is NO water in my incubator at all, since I live in mid-Ohio and outside humidity has been sitting right at 60% for the past two weeks. Humidity inside the incubator's been at 62% since I set them... Eek.

My first broody hen started sitting eggs on the 25th ..so I'm in. I had to stop incubating because I ran out of places for all the chicks...and now I have a broody hen on eggs! Not sure how many..8-12, I'm going to leave it alone...and in 2 more weeks hope to see babies! But I am leaving for a couple of weeks so hopefully will see some chicks when I get back. I rehomed 17 chicks today and tomorrow I am moving 5 more. Have an ad on craigs list to sell my young hens! (not all of them!) ...Just have to down size!

Oh my gosh, Shardean! Yeah, I could see that happening to me very quickly. I'm planning to order some Australorps for delivery just about when these guys are due to hatch, raise 'em all together. I suspect if I'm not careful I'm going to be up to my ears in chickens soon!
