Ok so I am wanting to make a PVC feeder & waterer. If you made them, what diameter did you use? Would love to see some pictures. I saw one on here that I loved, but havent been able to find it again.

Now question regarding the run. I thought I read some where, where some one didnt bury the hardware cloth, but they enclosed the bottom the same as the top. Is that really possible? Or Advisable? I just really do NOT want to dig down to bury the wire.

Any advice you all share would be GREAT.

Don't have any pics of mine (will get some tomorrow)

Waterer--2inch PVC 2 elbows and a cap/plug. 4fts section of pipe glue cap to one end. To the opposite end, add 2 elbows with a 3inch peice of pipe in between elbows. It will look like a candy cane. You fill it by laying it flat or upside down. Vaccum will hold the water in the "hook".

Feeder---3ft section of 4inch PVC, cap/plug, reducer from 4-2inch, 2inch Y, 3inches of 2inch pipe, 2inch plug/cap. Do not glue on caps! Attach reducer to 4inch pipe, attach 2inch pipe then Y with cap on the bottom. chickens will feed by sticking their head in the side of the Y

I have I think 4ft of a 3in pipe for the feed. Do I need a reducer? I think I was going to have it just flow into a corner cat litter pan? Ok that is the EXACT things I got for the waterer. I was starting to think that 2in wasnt big enough. How much water does that hold?

Possible, yes. Adviseable, generally not. Problems: quite expensive, and requires to be covered with 6-12+" of dirt or whatever (no foolin', that much!) in order to protect chickens' feet and let them scratch and dig semi-normally.

Better option: apron of wire mesh 2-3+' wide, laid horizontally on the ground just outside the run fence, securely affixed to base of run fence, and then pegged or weighted down well.

I *totally* hear ya on not wanting to bury your fence 18" deep! and this is just about as good a solution and far, far easier. Highly recommend.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
