no irrigation pipe is for direct burial underground or on top of ground for crops, etc ,etc will last longer than were here... PVC pipe is mainly used indoors for residential construction plumbing not ratted nearly as high for sunlight.

For snow issues you can put 2x4 braces under your ridge board. The number you would need would depend on how long you made your aviary. Mine is 10x10 and I put one brace in so I could hang my waterer and feeder. I really like this design as you can make it as wide or long as you like. Mine is tall enough to stand up in, but my door is a little short as I was trying to avoid going back to Home Depot. It is wide though, so going in with waterers and feeders isn't a problem. I can even get a wheelbarrow through the door if I need it. Since mine is in the shade and partially covered with a tarp, I don't anticipate any problems with the pvc getting brittle, at least not for a long time. I would ask at the store where you plan to buy your pvc if there are any other options besides pvc that could take more sun exposure.

Electric Wire Will Definately Help Prevent Dig Ins.... But Dig Outs Are The Other Potential Problem. I Couldnt Say For Sure If Its A Threat Where You Are, Given Harder Soil? It Was Just A Point I Wanted To Make--- Watch For It And Be Ready To Alter Your Design If Needed... Down Here They Dig Like Mad... 12 Inch Deep Pot Holes Are Normal. You May Have Different Circumstances There ( I Hope So For Your Sake It Sux Having To Fill In Holes Everyday

MY PENS ARE SIMILAR, BUT NOT MOBILE LIKE THE PVC HOOP AVIARY. MINE ARE PERMANENT... WOOD FRAME WITH WIRE CONSTRUCTION AND THE ROOFING TIN BOTTOM WALLS. I DONT REALLY HAVE ANY PIX OF THE PHEASANT PENS BUT THEY ARE MADE JUST LIKE THE WOODY AVIARY HERE IN THE PIC...

ALL CORNERS AND CENTER BRACES ARE 4X4 POSTS, DIVIDER WALLS AND OUTSIDE WALLS ARE ALL WIRE/ NETTING AND COVERED ALONG THE BOTTOM 2 FT OR SO WITH ROOFING TIN. TOP FRAMES ARE SIMPLY 2X4'S SCREWED TO THE 4X4 POSTS TO FORM OPEN BOX FRAMES THAT WIRE/ NETTING CAN BE ATTACHED TO, AND THEN WIRE OR NETTING IS STRETCHED OVER ALL, DOORS GO UP AND THE FINAL PART IS DIG OUT AROUND ANY WALL AND INSTALL ROOFING TIN ALONG THE BOTTOM... I TRY TO BURY IT AT A DEPTH OF 16 INCHES THE REST IS SCREWED TO THE 4X4 SUPPORT POSTS UP THE SIDE. KEEPS THEM FROM DIGGING OUT, OTHERS FROM DIGGING IN, WORKS AS A BIOLOGIC BARRIER AS WELL AS VISUAL BARRIER SO THE BOYS WORRY ABOUT THEIR OWN HENS AND NOT THE NEIGHBOR'S HENS, AND AS STATED THEY ARE SOLID METAL SO COONS OR CATS CANT REACH THRU AND HOOK A BIRD. OBVIOUSLY I AM IN A HOT HUMID CLIMATE, SO THE ABOVE THE SOLID METAL THE SIDE WALLS AND ROOF ARE OPEN WIRE NETTING TO ALLOW MAX VENTILATION FOR THE BIRDS COMFORT. THERE'S VARIOUS STRUCTURE/ HIDES WITHIN THE AVIARIES FOR THEM TO USE AS SECURE LAYING SPOTS AND SHELTER FROM SUN AND WEATHER. THE DESIGN ALSO ALLOWS FOR MAXIMUM COMMON WALL USE THEREBY CUTTING DOWN ON MATERIAL EXPENSES... NOT A CONCERN IF THIS WILL BE YOUR ONLY PEN, BUT IF BUILDING MULTIPLE PENS OR IF ALLOWING OTHER POULTRY TO FREE RANGE AROUND YOUR BIRDS AND CONCERNED ABOUT BIOLOGIC ISOLATION THIS WORKS GREAT

Yeah down in Florida I could see a problem with that being sandy soil but here in Central North Carolina we don't have that problem with sandy soil....you almost need a pick axe to dig around here and to bury that tin roofing like you have in those pics that deep, here you would need a ditchwitch....especially when its summer ground turns hard as a rock!!! LOL

That pen looks neat. I have most of my birds in 2x4 welded wire running along steel t-posts, with nylon netting as the canopy. They arent the most excuisite of pens, but they are easy, and very large. I've never had any pheasant dig out of my pens, the worst for digging are my eared pheasants, and impeyans. To keep predators out, I have electric wire run around the bottom and the top of the pens, and nothing ever gets in. you could lay wire on the ground around the inside peremeter to keep them from digging holes under if your concerned about it, but I wouldnt worry about it personally, as long as predators cant get in.

I live in Santa fe TN. not far from you. I built a avairy with 1 inch pvc for my chickens a couple of years ago. when we got that little ice storm 2 years ago it collapsed. I would recomend yoy put lots of bracing in it.

You know, since pheasants are so costly, you're better off not raising them in a hoop house aviary if you ask me. A standard setup such as a chicken coop like avairy is best, or possibly a dog kennel.
