This is my first time posting a picture, so I hope it works...if it does

this is my new PVC feeder that dh and I rigged up today using the requiste pvc and a cut out plastic jar! Im so proud of it!

This is a cheap, dollar store plastic mixing bowl with a hole in the bottom hanging on a chain that will hopfully act as a "cabana" or umbrella in the rain to keep the feed dry.

This last pic is of the girls using the cabana feeder.. I sprinkled some scratch in there to get their attention so now they know where the groceries are. Its a teeny bit small for 3 chickens and I can imagine that Omelette, low girl on the totem pole will end up having to wait her turn, but it holds more than they could eat in a week so it should be fine.

really hope the pics work

me too! the feeder kept clogging up too when the feed got damp. I hope this will be a solution. I will have to wait for rain to be sure, but it looks promising.

That's a good idea and should work well. I have used a plastic outdoor garbage can lid in much the same way--keeps rain out.

I like it! That is so nice and serves the purpose well! Would you mind telling me what size pvc pipe that is and around how much food does it hold. My only thing here is that it might not be good for roosters with their large combs and long waddles~

Thats awesome!! I guess that takes care of mice/rats eating your feed too huh? Do these stay nice and clean? My birds will sit in the top of the feeder and eat

hence the cleanliness question

I believe its a 4 inch diamiter, and its not all the way full at the moment but I poured a 2 pound coffee jar full of crumbles into it and its not even a quarter of the way full. Im not sure if roosters wouldnt get their combs rubbed on the edges of the jar. Hubby and I debated about cutting it all the way so it was an open trough or leaving it mostly covered. I voted for mostly covered, we can always cut more off if need be. We don't have a rooster so no worries here. I would however want an open trough I think if I had a lot of chickens..I wouldn't want them fighting for the opening.

I only put it up today, so we will see about the cleanliness factor. I don't have any critters that I know about yet... just chipmunks and the dog keeps them on the run.
