I'd recommend 2x4 welded wire for the top, and probably the sides also, with 1/2 inch hardware cloth around the bottom for predator control. The welded wire is sturdy enough to handle some ice buildup, a much more dangerous condition than just wet snow.

Yes, better than netting because they can't possibly tear through it. I assume they will not roost in the run, so I think the welded wire top is the best.

I use deer netting and rain/snow go right through. Collected ice a bit but nothing that actually caused a problem
