I will explain when I get home tonight and try to have pictures in the morning.

5 broody silkies all at once, 2 nest spots have resulted in at least 1 chick.

I did not have the energy or time this time around to fight the broody hoard known as silkies. I do not know how many eggs they are all fighting over. I do know this morning when I went out to feed a adorable little very light partridge chick poked it's head out at me from between the 2 momma's sharing the bottom box. I grabbed some chick starter and put it in front of the momma's and a small shallow lid of water for it. Raven also has 1 chick as well as of this morning.

I guess there will be big updates tomorrow on the chick front.

Oh those broodies! They sure are determined aren’t they!

This is Whiskers….. the brat!

She is once again determined to hatch chicks…

I am surprised she doesn’t go and roll eggs from the nest box into her chosen spot.

Which is actually a really great spot - if one wanted to hatch chicks that is….

But she does!
I have to buys some more fake eggs. The golf balls aren’t cutting it. Sylvie has now booted 3 out and they have disappeared!

I had a found golf ball in there, maybe it was good for about two years? Now it’s in my storage jar, basically in a display of old beat up fake eggs in case it’s somehow needed.

They started by sequestering the fake and real eggs away from the golf ball. I would notice it was nearby but never in with the bunch they actually sat on. I’d arrange it back with the fake eggs after gathering. Nope. They booted it far away into a corner, and it would again be back there after I moved it. One day I realized I hadn’t seen it in awhile. It had disappeared, discovered later buried deep in the hemp in the corner.

These are chickens that will, like yours, take the time to move a fake or real egg from one box to another, usually from box three to box one, leaving the middle box empty. (The box dividers don’t go all the way to the floor of the nest box rectangle, so one can reach under somehow, but still. A chicken has to herself go from box to box to get it all the way across. I’d love to see them in action.)

They had obviously decided it made a better structural element for the nest bowl than anything else. I often recall what @featherhead007 said about Butters in 2021!
I didn’t know that Butters was a structural engineer? Go figure :hugs

Here she was, in the back, inspecting the concrete of a new perch. That’s Peanut in front.

@ChicoryBlue
As promised a little Bucky photo shoot. Probably more than you wanted but I was trying to get a clear view of the dark stripe on the top of her head and there was a lot of photobombing going on!
Sorry - lots of pics!

Beautiful! It’s not possible to post too many pictures of chicks! 😍 😍 😍
The eyeliner is not at all like it was in that previous picture. The distinct stand-alone head stripe against such faint / non-existent chipmunk is interesting. Her coloring seems right. She could be a Buckeye. Whatever she is she will be beautiful, as they all are! 🥰🥰😍😍

Is Tassels a new mama?
