Pygmy goats are really fun and comical to watch. They love to play on cinder blocks , wheel barels , picnic tables and etc , they can entertain you for hours , lots of good laughs with this breed !
They are very easy to care for .They make awesome pets , brush eaters , can be used for meat purposes etc. They can breed all year , so its best to keep bucks seperate from does til you are ready to breed them. They also can be sneaky escape artists

All of mine stay in except Billy Boy he is my escape artist ! The Pygmy is by far my favorite breed of goats , I just love my Pygmies !

Oh so cute!!! I just love the pygmy goats, I have heard that they are not friendly so it is nice to hear so many people with positive experiences.

I know they can be milked but do most people milk their pygmys if so what do they do with the milk?

how much can one get from one or is it different for each individual goat?

Do people use them for meat or are they primarily used as pets. if used for meat at what age are they culled and is it the same taste as full size goat meat?

Is there a market for them?

I have never really heard about them before although I have seen them a million times at local farms and petting zoos but never really thought about it before. I always figured that livestock was completely out of the question for where I live but they seem small and i do have an 1 & 1/2 acres so it would be physically possible. the thing is i am not really looking for a pet more like a useful giving animal and provider of food that I take great care of and spoil from time to time.

Hi I'm looking into getting two pygmys and had some qustions.

1. Do pygmys have to be able to browse?

2. What type of hay do they need and how much per day?

3. Wethers or does?

4. Can they be kept with chickens?

5. Do they need feed and if they do what type and how much?

Thanks :)

If you are looking for a milk goat a nigerian dwarf would do better than a pygmy and still little.

Not an expert or anything but ill answer what i can.

They dont have to browse but its best if they can.

They need a good quality hay 2nd and 3 rd cutting alfalfa is best.

Wether or doe is personal choice and what you want it for. Wethers are usually much cheaper then a good doe.

They can be kept with chickens but they must be kept out of the chicken feed it can cause them to bloat. My new setup when finished will have a shelf that blocked off where the chickens eat to keep my nigerian dwarves out of it.

They dont need grain unless pregnent and nursing.
