Pyncheon chickens. Anyone else have any?

I don't know of many breeders of Pyncheons that have birds that meet the ABA Standard.....red earlobes and the proper leg color seems to be the biggest obstacle in the breed..... and excess white....I don't know where that comes from.......(?) Get back with me in the Spring....I only hatched out 7 chicks this year.....my own fault....busy doing other things....I do keep about 50-60 breeders.... I'm working on getting willow legs in ALL of my Porcelain Pyncheons.....it's been pretty hard going......still working on getting some more hatched late this year....I may have to knit booties for them.....better late than never.

Please keep me posted....and again....VERY nice type Pyncheon female that you have....probably the best I've seen for body type posted on the computer in a long........time.

I really wonder where she came from. Like I said, I got her at TSC from the bantam bin. It really makes me wonder if someone local is breeding them. The NPIP cert. guy I got some bbs Ameraucana eggs from locally told me he drives to Virginia, etc, to get eggs to hatch in the spring and he sells chicks to TSC and Southern States. He may even be the one that hatched her and doesn't remember! I am going to check with him this spring to see if he can find any as well.

pyncheons.

I've been serious about the breed for 16 years.....and have been serious about the Mille fleur color since 1979. And serious about showing and raising "Quality" stock since 1967. I've had many Mentors...I hope I can continue the tradition..... My best to all breeders and wanna-be breeders of Pyncheons.

Well, I guess it's moot until I can get ahold of some more stock, but how would you breed for leg color? Is my cute little hen even usable in a breeding program? I know that white skin is dominant, so she might have yellow genes hiding, is that correct? Then I need to find a roo with yellow skin AND the blue over color? Or I could possibly use her to get started on some good stock with good body type, then work on color later and not worry about the white legs right away??? Thanks! I'm really interested in trying to breed her if I can! I know the feather color is easier to improve when working with what you have, but I would need to bring in new genes to get the correct leg color if my current stock is lacking... right? If I do get some more, they will probably be my first real chicken project.

I have some other rare breeds, but other than the blue Andalusians, I have had no interest in breeding for breed improvement.

To get willow leg colored male chicks....you have to have BOTH parents with willow legs or at least a male that has yellow legs carrying blue.... and then cross him to a yellow legged female or a willow legged female....females CAN NOT carry blue.....only the males.....males need to have BOTH the yellow and blue gene from BOTH parents to produce willow legged male chicks....and the females need yellow from BOTH parents and blue from the male....one dose of blue (from male) and two doses of yellow....for the female chicks.....and remember......! The females that have white or yellow legs...can not carry blue. Males can.....

really quick..... if you cross your white leg female to a blue leg male.....all of the chicks will have white legs and the males will carry blue.... if she's crossed with a yellow leg male......all of the chicks will have white legs and both sexes will carry yellow.... if she's crossed with a willow leg male.....all of the chicks will have white legs....the males willow carry blue and yellow....and the females will carry only yellow......about as clear as mud eh? Again...hope this helps?

It does! Thanks! I will have to revisit this thread when I'm ready. And haven't been at work for 13 hours straight... The overtime pay will be nice though...
