Pyrenees issues need advice

A suggestion from our observations with our dear departed Cleo- a Black Russian terrier who loved and guarded our flock.
If there was activity going on that she considered *bad*, she felt it was in her right to mete out discipline. She never killed a chicken but did try to catch and carry. Is it possible that yours, in your absence, believes there are problems she needs to *fix* and in the process, the fowl is killed? For instance, if the ducks/geese are in the water and she does not consider that safe, I could see her trying to pick them up and return them to a safe pen. She wouldn't think as far as them dying in the process.
Cleo had to go in the house if we were catching chickens for processing. She didn't like the commotion they made and would try to help. And we never allowed her to be around the processing.

I feel for you, I know that once they (dogs) have learned a behavior like killing, it can be extremely difficult to stop, you can't ever fully trust them, you may have to tie your dog, or kennel it when you are gone, and until you can solve the issue. I have a few puppies right now, and chickens everywhere, mostly they are bored with them, but have shown some herding (stalking) instinct in the large field...I don't allow it to continue because they are for predators, not herding chickens! and I don't want them getting ideas, I don't really know your dogs and lotta people have offered good advice, just wishing you good luck with your problem.

strong work with your dog.

Here's what I did with my pyr when she got one of mine..When we first got her, and she's almost 5 now, which, has only been a year since we got her, but my hubby and I would take a chicken, with her on the leash, making her sit. We would put the chicken right in front of her and if she got up, we'd tell her to sit back down..If she went for the chicken at all, we'd yank her back. Once she was submitting like this, we'd put the chicken on her back..Same thing...made her submit. It took a few times doing this, but now, they all lay together and she does her job...
