'Is Limpychick wanting to lay in this territory ? on your property?'

This is the twelfth year of The Project. Have only seen two incubations: rare

https://i.imgur.com/bA7j0Ap.mp4

So:

Limpychick's genes are whispering in her ear. But she has not consort. The male mentioned didn't hang around. (Note to self: get consort, to pass on DNA)

But Tooshtoosh, Limpychick's male clutch-mate, has a consort. He has brought her home (unusual for a male to wear the pants). But although Limpychick has failed dismally to command the house-clearing, she can drive Tooshtoosh off.

At this point, we guess that Tooshtoosh and Mrs. Tooshtoosh -- now in the countdown to copulation and laying -- are 'in orbit,' trying to secure a bit of territory as close as possible to the house-clearing.

And the clip above is a wild breeding-pair in the gums just beyond the clearing. These clips are unique.

And the pair is unalarmed because Tooshtoosh is tame, and this allows The Human to get close enough to film. Mrs. Tooshtoosh is 97% wild. (It's always splended to see new consorts, male and female, get their first taste of wheat.)

So beautiful! I love those feathers and thanks to a BYC member who kindly sent me an envelope full of them, I know what they feel like! :love

Just how patriotic is Ciara feeling today? ... Is territorial close to patriotic??:gig

Well, she was feeling naughty today, I'll tell you that! I left one small area of fencing that shares a fence with a goose pen as four feet tall, because it was convenient to be able to haul things over the fence between the two pens there.

Today, she jumped it  Found her in with the geese. So I guess I have to pop up some fencing there and no longer have my low area. Ah well, at least it was easy to get her back in her pasture.

Have the grown ups been introduced to the Youngins yet

deb

Not yet, but soon! I just bought fencing to expand the emu pasture, and for a little while I'll leave a dividing fence between the sections and put the babies in the new part so they can get used to each with a fence between, and so the babies can get big enough that Ciara can't hurt them so easily. That's tomorrow's project.

Great story. I'll bet you'll be talked about for quite some time. :gig

They were all except one old enough to be grunting (and booming, I guess, but no females boomed for me, lol) but the baby chick whistle I can do still got all their attention, haha.

Saw the big females and realized Ciara still has some filling out to do.

One of the males was allowed to just wander free throughout the zoo, so that was pretty cool. He must be pretty calm and well-trusted, since there were a lot of small children there.
