With Emus you have to send in the shell for genetic testing to see if it is male or female?

Yes, I mailed out 22's shell today, so soon I should know his gender for sure. The gosling is a male; those I can vent sex.

Sadly, they didn't invent a cool name for little emus. They are called chicks or hatchlings.

More like wishful thinking, lol. The males tend to stay friendly while the females become more aloof as they age. So I'd love it if 22 was a male.

Kinda cool how the female lays a clutch of eggs for the male to incubate...isn't that correct?? If so you will be surrogate dad not mom. lol

Yep! They're also a little polyandrous, so the females might mate with more than one male if given the chance. And they start breeding about 50 days before she starts laying eggs.
