Cool! Is she going to turn darker?

Looks like it! I bet her old feathers have just slowly sunbleached, and these new feathers are her 'actual' color.

Think the same thing is happening to me. I have snow white hair(naturally at this point in my life). However, when I look in a magnifying mirror I can see a lot of long black hairs popping up. I never had black hair, I had dark brown with red highlights-naturally.

Looks like they don't really molt feathers out and then regrow them like chickens.

I was wondering about this...in relation to wild/songbirds but...
.....do all birds molt like chickens?
....and other poultry...Duck geese turkeys?

The Canada Geese at my place are molting right now. Over a week I found a bunch of their primary flight feathers when I mowed near the pond. Their baby is getting its flight feathers in so I think they molt at the same time so they are ready to travel at the end of June. They are always gone by July 4.

Well, geese blow all their old/damaged feathers at once and can't fly for awhile until they grow the flight feathers back. Ducks molt more like chickens from me experience. Couldn't say about turkeys (yet, I have a couple poults hatched this year).

all birds molt just in differeent ways.... Most I ever see in flight is a single tail feather missing or wing feather... In the case of doves I have seen all the tail feathers missing... Got grabbed by something.

Owls do hunt birds in their nests....

and I used to raise finches and parakeets... Never saw more than a few feathers on the floor of the aviary...

Oh, and I did some chick shuffling today, and my 18 brahma chicks upgraded to the red chick corral. The emus were curious. Also, you can see how much they've grown already.

"Hmm this looks familiar..."

"Hey, I think there's something in here!"

Yeah, that happens after awhile with Google Photos for some reason. Dunno why, I don't know if it's a BYC thing or a Google Photos thing.
