Pyxis' Emu Chat Thread

Too much excitement this morning. Lyra got out of the pen. Why it's always my females doing that, I don't know, lol.

Anyway, she didn't go anywhere and she just followed me right back in, so it wasn't hard to get her back. What I didn't like was that she got out at all. I was worried the fence had come down somewhere or something. Nope, gate was open. Unlatched but mostly shut, luckily, so the other two didn't get out, but I know I didn't leave it open. So that leaves either the emus somehow managing to unlatch it, or, worse, one of the neighbor kids did it. Or an adult neighbor, even.

Of course my game cam wasn't up, so I have no clue what happened, but the gate is padlocked now, so whatever happened, it won't happen again.

Locks...they keep the honest honest.

Was there any kind of carabineer or snap latch or something that couldn't just be knocked loose.

I tried to get pictures of the babies but they would NOT hold still. All my pictures are blurs, lol.

Ciara is always happy to pose though :)

No, the latch that was on there, it's highly unlikely but plausible that they could have somehow opened it, so I can't say for sure they didn't do it. It's just pretty unlikely.

Gynocentric species, Pyxis, would be my first thought.

But today: was out in the bush, and met The Mail Lady. So we're talking about environmental stuff, and she picks this bag off the back seat. And in a second bag . . .
So, we'll say they belong here on The Emoo Thread because kangaroos are part of the 'warning system' of the bush, on which emus are highly dependent. The nearer one is a 'black gloves' wallaby joey, and the other is a western grey kangaroo.

Recognising 'my' tame-wild emus can be difficult when they return from long absences. So anyway, a few days ago, this emu just walks out of the bush, comes up to within about six feet of me, peers at me, and leaves. Hmmmm . . .

But yesterday I figured it out: it's Limpychick, back for spring, with a consort in tow.

And as is the emooo way, conflict began immediately. And because Tooshtoosh is home-team, he fronted up for Team T. and T. So, you see Limpychick's male consort doing the lookin'-on thang back at left. Limpychick with feathers flared in the sunlight. Tooshtoosh impersonating Fred Astaire to her right, and Mrs. Tooshtoosh getting out of the way.
