So, when do ducks actually start quacking? Cause one of mine says "rrrrat" now sometimes when she's resting, and all of my three week olds except one are getting different voices. I was wondering, if they are doing that now, when will they sound like adult ducks?

They usually begin getting adult voices at about 4 5 months old.Females quack males do not. They make kinda a whamp sound.Muscovies on the other hand dont quack at all.Males hiss and females make a sorta peeping sound.

Hmm. So why do you think mine are starting to make other noises now? Are they just weird?

Their still young. They will honk make small quacks or peeps.Probably some voice translations.

Females should start to quack around 4-6 weeks. Males don't quack, they make a raspy noise. But hens will make all kinds of other sounds too. Mine walk around the yard chatting to each other softly. Don't know if drakes make other noises as I don't have any.

My drake started making mini quacks at that age but it then turned into something raspy. But cant memorize them quacking so young.

Shoukd have mentioned that their full voice doesnt come in until about 4 5 months.

Oh, I see. It's funny when they do it.

Mine are three weeks now. I have only girls. I wish I had a duck interpretation book even at this age cause they make different noises! It's probably nothing compared to when they're adults, though. I can't wait till they start quacking!

OK. So they start at 4-6 weeks and get their full voice at 4-5 months? Wow that takes awhile!

Definitely, and they enjoy practicing using it once that happens. Boy oh boy they can get loud when they want to. Thankfully mine quieted down after a while.

Mine are loud already! I can't imagine what it will be like when they get older! I'll probably have to move a mile or so away and walk to their coop every day :)
I actually enjoy the noise sometimes, but not always! Boy, I hope the neighbors don't complain when they really start up!
