We have chicks in a brooder and quail in an incubator right now. The quail will be in a separate brooder of course. My question would be how far do the brooders need to be? Separate rooms? Etc? Thanks.

I need to clarify, the chicks were purchased as chicks (impulse buy) and the quail as eggs.

If they've just hatched from eggs, I don't think you need to worry too much about disease. They probably don't HAVE any diseases to give each other at this point.

Well, are you going to keep them less than 100 yards from each other outdoors? A lot of the poultry diseases can be airborne, and can be spread very easily on any of your equipment, or on you, or by wildlife (mice, etc) that can go between the pens. I wouldn't bother trying to separate them too much, they're going to be exposed to each other eventually. Just wash your hands between brooders, don't switch equipment between brooders, and if possible tend the quail first.

Thanks. They will be well separated outside. The coop is on one side of the property and the quail enclosure will be on the otherside which is over 125 feet (with the house in between them as well).
