Quail bedding?

Hello all,
I have 40 quail and still trying to figure out the best bedding for these stinky birds. Do you guys add Sweet PTZ?
My quail lives outside on a producers pride chicken coop I have no proper quail pen yet with an egg roller.

I keep mine on the ground. When they're in my garden beds I hoe it all under once a week or so.

That's kinda small for 40 quail. Which model is it? Most are only 2×6 on the ground level at most.

I use shavings personally, not with the dust though

You can add sweet PDZ…..doesn’t hurt anything but not really necessary like with chickens that roost inside. When I have birds in a solid tray cage type setting I use scoop to do small bedding changes as needed. Outside we till/turn 3-4X per year. I haven’t changed straw in my “coop” for a couple years as it stays dry and not really stinky with the small amount of use

Yes, I add PDZ if I'm using peat or sand as bedding. The more space you have though, the less they smell.

Mine are on the ground. I put down a layer of straw.

I use shavings and add apple cider vinegar to their water from time to time. Something like one tablespoon per gallon. Keeping everything dry really makes a difference too.
