Kyzerc,
I love the cabinet idea. Thank you for sharing.

PS. Is air circulation a problem when the sides of a brooder are solid?

I have 2 larger cages like one in your picture.$150.00 at tractor and supply.I just had to put paper on floor and some smaller wire around lower sides.Ive kept them in there when full grown. They are made to hold 3 chickens, but ive had at least 30 a +a m,s in them, plus chuckars

I put wire on top, have had no problem, light bulb is about a 60 watt.I also use some of the large plastic storace boxes I clamp a light on and cut top in half for cover,to help keep some of my cats and dogs out. Also use some large ice chests. If its too hot you can always add a little wire around sides, but I have never had to,but mine are inside,I keep a theromenter in them whem first put in use,so I wont cook some.

thank you, used to do it 50 years ago and just started back last September.
let us know what % hatch,im wanting to order some gambel quail eggs and wonder how many may hatch,I really don't want all 30 to hatch.
I finally bought a candler from stromgburgs, the one to even work on brown eggs,I tried it on silkie eggs about 1 week old,all have veins,it works good on brown and quail eggs. The material we put on lower side of big cages is just a small plastic wire looking materal.I have another brooder my son made out of a microwave.

Kyzerc,
These are some creative ideas! I'm still looking at options, but I greatly appreciate everything you have shared.
