I am currently on day 8 of incubation of 48 coturnix quail eggs and am unsure as to what is the best way to tell if they have bubbies in them, advise please as I have read so many different things my head is spinning.

If you really want a good hatch don't mess with them. Most experienced breeders don't unless we are short on space in the incubator. I know how tempting it is to interact with the eggs but every time you mess with them you're hurting their chances. My suggestion would be to let these hatch and once they start to lay for you, then practice candling.

If you absolutely have to do it, don't water candle. It tells you nothing more than if they egg is fresh or not. Either buy or make a candling light out an LED flashlight.
