Quail chick feed?

Hi,
i'm expecting a hatch of bobwhite quails and want to know if 22% protein feed is ok for the chicks? I could always supplement the feed with other protein rich things to increase the protein level for them like peanuts or insects, if thats not enough protein.

I feed mine a 20% flock raiser, with no supplements....they'll be fine.

Bobs Do Best On A Gamebird Starter, Obviously The Higher The Protien The Better They Grow... The Biggest Issue Is What Type Of Starter--- Many Breeders Say Gamebird Starter Or Turkey Starter As They Have A Slightly Different Recipe (thats How The Protien Percentage Gets Higher..)used To Make The Crumbles And It Wont Constipate Them Like Regular Chicken Feed/ Starter Can....

I Have A Good Number Of Butlers (yeah Baby! The Sumo Wrestlers Of The Bob White World!) I Have Used Both And Did Get A Noticeable Difference With The Gamebird Starter--- A Lot Less Lost Chicks. This Topic Can Lead To Great Lengthy Debates As Can Medicated Vs Non-medicated. And Ultimately Economy And Budgets Come Into Play As Well--- Gamebird Starter Is More $ And If Your Only Feeding A Few Lil Quail Is It Worth The Investment And Buying A Whole Bag....

Yes, 20% starter/raiser is fine! I have never ever had a chick die over a 3-4% protein ratio.
No matter what the spicies.

Supplements: I don't use them! To costly and time consumming!
They are frankly OVER RATED in my book.

What you want your birds to be eating is a (complete) ration. 18-30% protein.
That trumps any suplements!
Feed in bird is best.

I use 24% chick starter of purina I moisten the starter with a couple teaspoons of water this seems to get them started eating faster and less wasted food. Don't moisten the whole batch just half of it.
