I have fed medicated and non medicated and not had problems. The quail are not as prone to the issues of shell-less eggs like chickens. That being said once in a blue moon I give them egg shells...they don't seem to go after them lke the chickens. As long as you are feeding a crumble they won't need extra grit. If you are feeding seeds and such you will need to add grit
