Quail colors

Have been looking into quail for some time now. What is holding me back, is the fact that they will escape from my loving:love home first chance they get.:hit
Don't have a large aviary possible at this stage. :(
I know their eggs are SUPERIOR in nutrition. :thumbsup
Thanks for posting this video. There are so many more different varieties than I first thought.

Just get some. My quailies are only going to be one month old tomorrow. I should have gotten them years ago.
I am already thinking about making a huge walk in type cage for them.

If you got Button quail, yes they'd be off the first chance they got (little escape artists), but the Coturnix are very docile and curious, especially if you interact with them a lot as chicks. Mine have fallen out of their cage that's elevated off the ground (in a cage on the ground I had rats grabbing them through the half inch hardware cloth and chewing through wood to get at them!), but they'll fall out just because they are being nosy. They won't deliberately fly out unless something frightens them. I had one male do that but he found his way home by the next day and he was easy to catch. In fact, when you clean them out, they are usually so nosy that they'll do nothing but stand in the way, right where you are trying to clean.

They are lovely creatures (most of the time). And the chicks are adorable.

@Texas Kiki thanks for sharing the video. It's excellent. Glad to see you are enjoying your quail. Your birds are gorgeous. :love

I absolutely love quail, and any bird at that matter but quail have been the most interesting. I currently have 3. 2 female and one male. I started with 6 but over the years I lost them. In September my eldest one died at age 6. He was my baby and a Texas A&M. I also had another Texas I adopted with star gazers. Currently I have an Italian female, jumbo brown female and a Rosetta male. They are very curious I agree. They live inside in a temperature controlled environment. I take them out when the weather is nice so they can hide in the grass and play. They get very scared when they are outdoors so I dont do this often. It's fascinating to find other people out there that have these lil guys as pets rather than always for meat. It's hard to find someone to ask advice about them or get experience. There aren't many people around me that have them for pets as I do. The eggs are to die for and when my girls are laying daily I collect them and keep them all for myself since they are so yummy. The 3 quail I have right now are around 3 to 3.5 years old.

How many girls do you have with your one boy Kiki?
Too many I think. He had none girlfriend. I'll be separated them into smaller breeding groups as soon as possible. When my next eggs hatch and I figure out who is who. O think I'm going to put one male with each 4-5 hens.
