Quail dying in brooder...

Some mealworm packaging (if you're buying them) will have the protein info on the back. This should let you figure out the right amount to be giving them. I'd also sub in some eggs and other high-protein treats, as mealworms are very fatty and shouldn't be given in large amounts every day.

20% gamebird feed? Sounds like very low protein. Chick starter is usually 22%. The game bird I use for my quail is 26% I think it is Nutreena....
All the chick feed (chicken) starters that I saw were much less (like 16%) than the 20% game bird food (20%) that I used...I read that 24% was ideal so that is why I fed some ground mealworms...then, they started to die, so I quit the mealworm.

Ok, I got home and double checked my feed. I was incorrect in stating previously that my feed was 20% protein. It is Manna’s Game Bird feed, and has 24% protein. Also, attached is a pic of my brooder.

I had similar problems with my first batch of Corturnix... Paper towel was too slippery and they injured legs then gave up and died. Now using silicone drawer liner for second run doing much better. Also are you using an electrolyte solution in the water? I didn't the first time but now am. Between the 2 much more successful. Now if only i could get more eggs to hatch. Both of my runs only abouthalf hatched
