Sounds like you may have had humidity problems as well as temp problems if they were dried out.

Failed partially developed quail egg from supermarket

This is another one. My thermostat was not turning off on the third day for about an hour before I fixed it(thermometer probe got stuck outside the incubator my accident, it’s one of those cheap chinese ones) and then got to hot so I think most of them got too hot and died.

You can see the embryo on the eggshell
