I used to go outside with wet hair when I lived in the Rockies near Aspen. Until the morning I got frozen to the bus-stop shelter. Everyone was filing onto the bus and we needed to move quickly so the driver could stay on schedule. There I was, doing this silly windmill sort of thing with my arms, trying to get un-stuck without breaking my hair. Yeesh! And they say turkeys are dumb.

I used to catch the bus with wet hair as well, when I lived in Indiana. It wasn't like we stood out there forever, and it wasn't that long of a drive, but my hair would be crispy by the time I got on the bus! And of course, the stupid heaters didn't work worth a doodie, so I was usually still frozen till we got to the school! But it was either that or go to school with a bush on my head! Just love naturally curly hair, don't you?

One of my baby A&M's just keeps crying. It usually does it when the others are sleeping, or so it seems. I thought maybe it was hungry, so I swapped them 18% chick start for 20% flock raiser, but it still does it. Any ideas?

Regarding wet hair on the bus: The heater usually worked, so I fogged up the windows around me. Most of the other worker-bees on the bus were transplanted city folk, so they didn't mind. Guess who sat there rubbing the fog away to see out... I was always looking at the scenery. Also looking for glimpses of wildlife, and rewarded many times.

Regarding Bucket-mouth: I mean, the little chickie with the vocal cords. Sounds like it's still missing something. Years ago, when I worked at a small airport, sometimes dogs in crates would be left for quite some time in the bagage area. Between having their water spilled out during the trip, and nerves, they were very thirsty. After someone filled their water dishes, and they drank, the dogs would usually lie down and stay quiet, or even go to sleep. After having read several of your posts, I couldn't imagine your birds not having plenty of clean fresh water. So, obviously, it's got to be something else. Have you tried a drop of vitamins? Maybe some minerals. I like to give my critters and myself a few granules of kelp now and then for the trace minerals.....

I have some vitamin/electrolyte solution for my chicken babies, but I was not sure if it was ok to give it to the quail? It's the durvet brand powder. Is this ok to give to baby quail?

I brooded bobwhites and coturnix together, and when they got too big for the cage they were in I separated out the coturnix. The BWs cried non-stop until I put two coturnix back in the cage. I've tried 3 times to remove the coturnix, with the same results. Needless to say, they're still in there, because a dozen BW chicks screaming at once is unbearable.

No it was 18% chicken start. The feed store that I go to doesn't have the game bird starter, plus the flock raiser is 20%, so I was told it was ok to use that. I haven't noticed it crying too much today, so maybe it's gotten over whatever it's problem was.

<edit> The vitamin electrolyte stuff that I have is a powder. Should I mix it like I do for the chickens, or make it weaker for the quail?
