With my coturnix eggs I never put any water in for the first 15 days and my humitidty stayed about 45-55. During lockdown I filled the bottom rings of my hovabator and got 65% humidity and I always have good hatches. I set 20-30 eggs every week and never had more than 7 not hatch and most of those ended up being double yolks.
50-60% humidity for days 1-14. day 15 bump up to 70-80% and some folks drop the temp by 1 degree f==== i usually do this and have very good results. In some parts of the country your ambient humidity will allow dry incubation umtil the lockdown stage.
