yesterday unfortunately one of the female quails injured another females eye. She was left with a bloody eyelid and all red. (Not actually dripping with blood, minor injury!) I cleaned her eye (saline solution) and make sure there were no wounds or scratches. Also gave her critical care formula just to help her out with healing. Kept monitoring her, she was fine. They were also separated even though they kept calling for each other 😂
So this morning her eye is fully healed, not red at all and back to normal. Super happy to see that. But she’s consistently panting. This is what I’m unsure about. I know this could be heat or stress but it’s not too hot and I’m not sure what she could be stressed about. Eating and drinking fine. Fresh home. Walking talking fine. Physical (visible) health all fine. What could be the issue?

If she's not hot, panting is most likely stress. I would put her back in with her companion to see if that calms her down.
Yeah she is back in now, she was put back late night, hours after incident. They had calmed down

Glad to hear that they're doing well. Quail live fast. They hatch fast, mature fast, heal fast. I guess it's compensation for their short lifespans.
So do you think it’s related to age and lifespan?
Also another question, is it possible for a female quail to be infertile?

Age and lifespan seem reasonable to me, but correlation is not necessarily causation. I haven't studied it in depth, so I could be wrong.

It is possible that a female can be infertile. I believe that can happen in any species.

Actually I think infertile is the wrong word, she doesn’t lay eggs at all. She’s 1.5yrs
