Hi I need help! My quail eye was both swollen heavily today. Last Monday it was only 1 eye bubble watery and now both eyes were infected. I did use human saline eye wash twice a day and only applied terramycin eye ointment on Thu and Friday (twice a day) as my medication arrived on Thursday. This morning Saturday, no improvement and it's getting worse. No discharge from nostril and occasionally shake her head.

what can i do?

Hi,

Do you have others in the same area as this one and this is the only one with these symptoms? If so, I would keep this one away from the others and watch them for symptoms too. Check in its mouth and see if you see anything yellow. You can try putting warm compresses on each side of its face for a few minutes.

It could be a sinus infection, especially since you said it's shaking its head, or the start of a respiratory infection. Sometimes vitamin therapy can help them fight these things themselves. I'd get it on Poultry Cell or similar vitamins in its water.

Do you have a means to get to a vet to have it tested and perhaps prescribed antibiotics? If no, you might need to get some if this isn't better in a day or two.

Tylosin an antibiotic helpful with MG (a respiratory infection) symptoms. Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. Here is where you can order it:

Give it more time.

You just now really started treating the eye with ointment. Make sure the eye is flushed well with saline and that you get the ointment IN the eyes. See how she is after a week of using the ointment.

Any lice or mites? How are the flies and midges in the cages?

Thank you for your advice.

I have isolated my sick quail from the rest yesterday. Disinfected the existing coop and gave thr rest some poultry vitamin water with vetrx. No yellow thing in her mouth

As for the sick one, she is kinda blind at the moment. I stopped giving terramycin eye ointment since its getting worse. So I just wash her eye with saline water and vetrx with warm water around her eye. I gave her OxymavB for now as I couldn't find tylosin here.

Unfortunately there is no avian vet in my area. I will try to use warm compressed bag .

I try again tonite with the terramycin ointment. During last Thursday and Friday, I applied onto her eyes and she screamed. Not sure if she is in pain or stinging. During that 2 days, I didn't use vetrx except on her drinking and nostril.

No lice or midges as they are in the cage plastic materials in my patio. Weekly clean with dust free pine shaving. Water and feeder change everyday. They are my pets

It's my first time having quails eye issues. My quails are 4 months old.

I am running out of terramycin ointment.
Can I use the original neosporin into her eye Or around her eye?

Yes you can, that's what I have used for my Quail.
I read colladial silver can be used for eye infection. I wonder how effective for a severe case since I been treating with terramycin ointment last Saturday and hasn't seen any improvement. Should I continue with terramycin or proceed with colladial silver? By the way, I didn't apply neosporin as it was expired.

Conditon as at 6 Sept : No pus, just swollen under eyelid , no nasal discharge, bubbly eye on both side. She is still eating and drinking, just having difficulty to locate the food and water. I gave vetrx together probiotic water in the water as well.

You've looked really well in the eye to make sure there's nothing stuck in it like some debris?

I've never used Colloidal Silver, so can't say how well it would work. I too have read that some folks use it for eyes, but never tried it.
