Im not only new to the board, Im fairly new to raising quail, so Im not going to give advice about protein levels or when to feed what food.
I would like to offer a suggestion about finding feed that has worked for me. Check with the manufacturer. I was driving 20 miles out of my way to buy 24% when I could drive 5 miles to get 30%.
A short list of MFGs I know there are probably more and they may also be regional and not available in every state with out $hipping & handling$$ charges.
Durmor They make chick starter starting at 24% protein and levels down depending on the age/use etc. This was what I was driving out of my way to get, but is very good feed.
Purina Mills makes a full line of game bird feed. 30% protein down, depending on your needs. This is what Im using now.
Sportsmans Choice also makes game bird feed. I have never used their products, and their site doesnt list protein content, but it could be fine. Just another choice.
I know there are more choices, but this was where I started.
