quail feed question!

It shouldn't, I have switched my older quail to game bird starter and it hasn't affected them. I still feed the babies flock raiser though

The main point in choosing feed is protein levels--the higher the better. It really doesn't matter what the feed is made for. I feed my chickens calf grower...but it is 16% with added calcium.

I’m not only new to the board, I’m fairly new to raising quail, so I’m not going to give advice about protein levels or when to feed what food.
I would like to offer a suggestion about finding feed that has worked for me. Check with the manufacturer. I was driving 20 miles out of my way to buy 24% when I could drive 5 miles to get 30%.

A short list of MFGs I know there are probably more and they may also be regional and not available in every state with out $hipping & handling$$ charges.

Durmor They make chick starter starting at 24% protein and levels down depending on the age/use etc. This was what I was driving out of my way to get, but is very good feed.

Purina Mills makes a full line of game bird feed. 30% protein down, depending on your needs. This is what I’m using now.

Sportsman’s Choice also makes game bird feed. I have never used their products, and their site doesn’t list protein content, but it could be fine. Just another choice.

I know there are more choices, but this was where I started.

i havent been getting eggs since i switched (about a week ago) normally ill get about 6-12 eggs a day, now im not getting anything, (maybe its becuase i just switched them to their ground pen? maybe i should switch them back the the starter crumbles? they were doing good with that, i just dont want to harm them in th elong run, what do you guys think??

are you meaning you litterally moved them ot a new pen? if so yes that's why they stopped laying. Moving htem to new locations that isnt new to them will hault them for 2 -4 weeks at a time

okay, i think im going to switch them back to the starter crumbles, i think i read that if they dont have enough preotien they will start to pick feathers and i dont want that to happen, is there any that will harm them in th elong run if i do switch them back to the starter crumbles?
