Your quail may shred the leaves themselves too, it is just that Scrappy is a spoiled butt and unless it is his favourite food, he won't put much effort in at all. XP

Make sure they are these dandelions as well:

I dunno if their lookalikes are toxic to birds as well, but I do know they are toxic to pretty much every animal.

So, turns out the "dandelions" in my yard are their spiky, weaponized lookalikes. I decided to use nasturtiums instead.

Put some in a bowl or what not and they’ll grab what they need. You don’t have to measure it out. Just make sure they always have it

If you offer it on the side, they'll eat as much as they need.

You could put 200 grams in.

Why would you want to do that? Just use the sand, or is it easier for you to grind up big rocks into small enough pieces for quail to eat.
