I have been reading into the various feeds, and I think I might have it wrong. My feed store doesn't sell game bird feed. The bag I have is laying crumbles, for chickens. But on the back it says it can be for laying ducks, turkeys, and quail. Is this ok to use? I will get the percents tomorrow..

WILL IT KILL THEM? --- PROBABLY NOT. THE QUESTION IS WILL IT GIVE THEM THE NUTRITION TO BE ALL THEY CAN BE? MORE THAN LIKELY--- NO. THEY WILL NOT REACH MAX SIZE OR LAYING CAPACITY ON REGULAR LAYING CRUMBLES IN MOST CASES( THEY'RE ALWAYS AN EXCEPTION)

Does the feed store carry any turkey starter? It would be worth it to see if they can order some game or turkey feed. If you can't get either of those, I would go with chick starter with as high an amount of protein as you can get, then supplement their feed with oyster shells or cuttlebone. The layer feed for chickens is probably only about 16% protein, which is no where near enough for quail. Try to get something that has at least 20%, but higher if you can.

I will check the layer feed a little later today. I have 20% chick feed, and can get 24%. Would one of Those work better?

I'd go with the 24% if you can't get game or turkey feed ordered. Then just get some oyster shells (for coturnix) or cuttlebone (for buttons) to supplement their calcium.
