When it comes to processing quail, is it the same as with chickens? Seems like an awful lot of effort to go to for such a small amount of meat... Why's it worth it?

Also, is it financially worthwhile?

A co-worker brought a quiche to work last week to share and she explained that she had used the pre-scrambled eggs in a carton because it was so much trouble to crack eggs. You can walk around the grocery store and see ample evidence that some people prefer not to do the least amount of food prep.

I guess everybody has to decide what things are worth the trouble to them.

I appreciate your point although it's rubbed me the wrong way (definitely the wrong time of the month for me so likely not so much your fault). I live in an urban setting. My garden isn't huge and yet I've made space out there to grow the majority of our own fruit and veg and also raise my own birds for meat - so far only chickens. I'm planning on raising our own Christmas turkey this year and hopefully will sell some too. It's not a case of "I can't be arsed", just that I've got a lot going on already and wondered if there was some trick I was missing regarding quail. Turns out, it looks like I was.

Aw, that's awesome, thanks! I've just seen some eggs on ebay and they're pretty cheap. I've got chickens and turkeys on the go at the moment but have been thinking about what to put in the incubator when they're done. DH is concerned that we're running out of garden space lol - at least quail don't take up too much room! I also like the fact that they mature so quickly.

It takes me a good 30 minutes to process a chicken, figured quail would be the same procedure. The fact that it can be that quick (would probably take me more like five minutes lol), makes the prospect a lot more appealing. Will seriously consider keeping my own little breeding stock of quail.
