I made mine all of 1/2" hardware cloth. But they don't go in there until they're full grown... chicks can get their head stuck in the 1/2" holes...
What do you have the doors lined with? Your pic is what I have in my mind on how to make the door except for the edges.
I'm making mine out of 1/2" hardware cloth too with a wood frame. I'm putting 1/4" hardware cloth on the bottom with a pull out tray. I'm making this for my adult buttons; I have two cages with 3 each and their cages are small and temporary. These will be bigger and their permanent homes. Last weekend we completed a huge one for my 14 other adult buttons and my 5 4-week old coturnix (separate cages of course). But DBF did those (using old cat cages and made slide-out trays) so this is my very first attempt from scratch.

Sporttees: that's a picked-on bird... not enough space per bird, or they just really don't like him.
LRRM: I found 1/2 of a rectangular aluminum duct panel at Home Depot, and I just cut it down to size. There's 1/4" wire on the floor, and I wound up building a wooden frame around the bottom to hold the tray so it slides in and out.

There are only 2 birds in that pen-- Guess they don't like each other LOL. The guy told me he gave me 3 breeding pairs but it was hard to tell because they were only 5-6 wks old. I think I may have more females than males??

Yeah... Bobwhites don't mature very fast... I have some that are 10 weeks old, and I STILL can't figure out who's who...
But it looks like the one in question is a male, because of the white stripe on the face (the females are brown). I would separate him until he feathers out again, maybe keep a divider between them so they can still see each other, but can't get to each other.
A little extra protein will help him grow his feathers back.
