Quail Hatching Help (Day 18)

Are you counting the day you set them as day 1 or day 0? Most people count that as day1 but infact it's day 0. Check your humidity, make sure your in the 60 to 70% range. Don't open the bator if you have eggs that have pipped. If the humidity drops to o low before they hatch, add more to bring it up but only after checking for pipped eggs. Use warm not hot water, it will bring the humidity up faster.
Some will hatch early, some late, the majority at about the same time.
Do not unplug the bator until day 23 or 24 as they may still hatch....if by day 24 and none have hatch, then it's safe to say that none will. HTH
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise.

What where your temps thru incubation?
If your temps were low could be delayed hatch.
What was humidity thru incubation?

Don't float eggs. Just pull out and candle. You should be able to see the movement of the chick or membrane.

Don't touch that plug! Candle them - you'll know if they have died or have stopped developing. A cellphone flashlight is good as it's a very small, concentrated beam and they are usually pretty powerful - put the fat end of the egg against it to see what's going on. And a very dark room (nighttime) is best to candle in.

A full, dark egg with a big looking air cell means the chick is good and close to hatching. The air cell gets a bit of a tilt to it before they pip internally. If there's a slightly yellow, watery gap between the foetus and the air cell with no veins visible then the foetus has died. If there's still a little gap but you can see red veins then they are still a day or so away from hatching. You may even get a treat and see a little shadow beak in the air cell (chick has pipped internally) wondering where the bright light came from. :fl Do keep us updated.
