Quail hatching in 24 hours question

Purina gamebird starter!, 30% protien. No humidity, and keep them at around 100 deg first couple days then you can go to 95. Hatched hundreds of coturnix quail. Get small chick waterers and put marbles or pebbles in it so they wont drown. But can still get there beaks in the water. If there coturnix marbles can be removed within a week.

I lost 10 or 11 and one is still on the fence. counting it I have 15 mostly very lively chicks.
they were not doing good in my brooder the time in-between heater turning off and on was letting them get cold down on the floor .so I put them back in my bator with no water and there doing ok its still wet as humidity out side is really high.I think there very fragile right now.I would try a light but if the bulb breaks I'm sure most would die.
I am not really set up for these guys.Chickens are easy compared to these guys.

I took the bottom of the bator with them in it out into the sun and They loved it!:wee
Running all around pecking every thing.

Have 23% game bird I'm grinding up for them.its pretty soft as I can't get humidity below about 70 %.
I am also giving them electrolytes. So far the ones that are left are improving.:fl

Hey, glad to hear some are doing well! Most of us use a heating lamp to brood, a heater isn't good because it has drafts, and yours turns off sometimes which you discovered isn't good :/

You could do two heat lamps in case one breaks. Some people do a special heating pad setup or they have the brooding heat plates that the chicks go under for heat.

Especially if the chicks are wet/damp, drafts are not good :O

You have 23% game bird feed, I am thinking its layer and not grower? 23% is ideal for laying hens but chicks need a bit more, some people use UNmedicated turkey feed if that's the only thing with a high protein percentage around them.

There was another poster several weeks ago that was feeding them about 20% protein? and at about three weeks feathering time, they became cannibalistic, pecking each other until there were wounds and blood so keep an eye on them/consider upping the protein until they're several weeks old :)

It is game bird feed.I have Turkeys .I am going to set up the light 2 more chicks are close to death along with the the weak one. I am pretty sure its the temperature problem at this point.I am learning the hard way about quail and heat. :(

Update for those still following this thread. After I took them out of bator and put them under the heat light. The one very weak one died, the other two could not hold there heads up and spent all day yesterday getting trampled and pecked by the rest. :(
I kept feeding them water every time I went out,I gave up on those two when I went to bed.Well never give up,because I went out this morning and there are 14 happy warm little quail ,all running around eating and drinking on there own.:)

Hello now that I have 14 very happy little Quail (They are so cute!)
What do you call the males and females?
Ive decided to get 60 eggs when I get back from vacation.

Roosters and hens. When older.

Or any name to put on each one you want to.

Congrats.

I hatched 50 new ones out yesterday

did you raise the humidity for the last three days? humidity is very important. too low: shell to dry to hatch, Too high: CHICK STICKS TO SHELL AND CAN'T ZIP
