Hi! I'm new here! My only male tuxedo quail, Edward, got attacked by a female about a month ago. A few weeks before now, one of my females, Chelsea, got attacked by the same quail. We put Edward in a box with two holes in the sides, and put Chelsea in a similar one. Edward could smell her and see her feet, but couldn't reach her. He tries to jump through the hole and keeps making this frustrated growl/grunt. I'm afraid he's going to go mad if we don't let her in the same box as him! They're both not completely healed though, and I'm afraid they're going to attack each other. What should I do? Should I open up the hole a little more? Should I make it so he can't see her?

He will likely try to mate her. You could try some supervised time together and see what happens. Be prepared to prevent him from pecking the back of her neck though.

When you say tuxedo, what species are they? If they're coturnix, they need to be in a group. It's not great for them to keep them alone.

You could try to rig a little 'saddle' like people put on chickens to protect them.
