Quail Help

three days ago I bought a “baby” female quail. Someone had returned her for a reason which is unknown, and I saw her and instantly fell in love. I also bought an adult male that day, and they’re doing fine. No fighting nor trying to breed. My two other roosters try to mate with both of them, therefore I am returning them(we cannot have more than 1 rooster here anyway, and I have 3) and I was wondering if my female quail could be alone. I heard that parakeets die from loneliness, but I have no clue if quails do the same. I would give her attention around the clock, but she has something wrong with her leg which is why I do not want her in with the others.

She will need a friend. Quail are very social creatures and a human cannot compare. If she's a Button quail she should be fine with a mate. I have a female with a bad leg and she's fine with her mate. She's even raised a few babies. Buttons can die from loneliness and will call constantly without a mate.

If she's a Coturnix quail she will need to be with females only and you'll need to introduce them very carefully. I'd get a single female the same colour and have them side by side for a week before putting them together in neutral territory. Then you could introduce more the same way if you'd like but I'd keep it one to one to start with as two or more new females who know each other will gang up on the unfamiliar female.

I tried getting a femal with the same color, but there are no others. She is a coturnix, but her colors are light brown with black spots. All the others are either white or full brown. I’m heading back to my local feeder to see if they have any other females though. Thank you so much for the reply! I’ll definitely get her a female bud.
