Hello Everyone,
I wanted to build a quail pen/cage and I don't know how big it should be? I am getting 1-3 quail hens, I wanted something simple... like this

the Quail sticky is great, highly recommended. lots of hard work and info, knowledge and a little magic there.

1+ square foot per bird, and it only needs to be about 12" high. I used half inch hardware cloth, please do not use chicken wire.

I do like the picture you posted, very sturdy, looks like its about 3x3 or 4x4, would be great for 3 quail hens, looks like it has a slide out tray for cleaning.

here is one of mine. it is 2x3x1

measure twice, cut once, good luck, and post pictures.

More than adequate! IMHO.

Put the space into floor space, and forget about head space.
I build 2x4x1, because that's how the lumber and wire comes. All divisible by 2

You can section that off as needed.

Your not the only one my friend! It's really hard to add 6-12 inches to a board that comes in 8 foot lengths. I have a 2x5 pen that was the most awful waste of lumber. The extra 2 square feet of floor space was costly.
This is why I build 2x4 pens, not 3x5 pens.
