I have so far 9 hatched quail (coturnix) - started hatching about 4 hours ago - none are completely dry yet, not even the first one. How long do they take to dry before I can move them to the brooder? I don't want to open the lid unless absolutely necessary, but it would be nice for the still hatching to have more room, but I'll leave them alone, I promise, hehe. this is my first hatch

I would wait until tomorrow morning to take any chicks out. They will do fine..they dont need food or water. And if they do get thirsty I have noticed chicks drinking out of the water tray..if the water is high enough they can peck at it through the screen. But usually I leave all the chicks in the bator till fully dry. Dont worry about opening the bator to take chicks out....wont hurt anything.
Good Luck with the hatch!
