:( quail killing egg? i need help

:/my quail lay an egg then poke a hole in it with its beak
then they put it in their water dish so it explodes:/
what should i do or what is wrong
i was looking at some pics of quail next to water bowl and it looked like that owner have put big marbles or jell balls in the water cup should i do that?
where can i get the marbles? are they marbles or gel balls?
how do know if they are male or female? they are button quail.

Make sure they are on a good diet with plenty of protein as they may be searching for protein. Also offer plenty of crushed oyster shell and they may also be looking for the calcium. I do know with chickens, eating the eggs can become a problem causing them to all eat or damage the eggs. However I have never lost too many eggs with quail poking at them. Try to collect the eggs before they lay around too long and maybe it will break this habit.
