Quail lump on beak?

Hi...Im pretty new to the quail thing (had my girls for 10 days). They are all just at egg laying age. This lunchtime I've noticed Vivian has a lump on her beak which has definitely only come up since moving in. She seems otherwise fine (though a little damp in this photo as she has chosen to stand out in the rain we've just had).

I saw an old thread from 2016 with this issue but no-one seemed to have an answer and no-one gave an update to say the bird was fine or not in a few weeks.

Has anyone had this before?

There have been similar posts within the last year as well. I think the general theory is that the lump is caused by hitting something - like the edge of the feeder or similar. I don't think it caused any of the birds any issues. The other pictures I've seen have shown more flat bumps though, rather than an actual lump like yours have, so it could be completely different.

mine had it, but it is pretty much gone now. About two weeks and it was gone. the lump on my birds beak was a lot smaller, so it might take your bird longer to heal.

good luck!

my quail has it and i dont know if i should take it to the vets but it kinda looks like yours but my quails lump is sort of bleeding now? is it okay?

My quail had hurt their beak on some mesh wiring and it had blood and I noticed this morning there was a big lump, I hope its just from healing and not a tumour.

Welcome to BYC! :frow

Do you have any photos?
I think it started when they cut their beak on their pens mesh wiring but I'm still quite worried and how 2 picture has a different type (also the male has made the females bald that's why they're well, bald.)

The balding is most likely from over mating, he grabs the feathers on her neck when he mates and pulls them out. You might give the girls a break from him for a while.

The bump looks infected. Do you have and antibiotic lotion you can apply? Something like Triple Antibiotic cream, without the pain killer. I'd put it on 2 times a day for a couple weeks and see it this helps.
