quail nestboxes?

the reason i am asking is because they will be free run in the day, but shut up at night, and i need a quick and easy mechanism (such as a hinged door at the back of each nesting box) to get at eggs. but that will be hard if they are scattered around the coup. any ideas? pictures might be helpful.............

Quail aren't the best fee rangers. You'll probably never see them again.

Quail are the bird of eternal sameness, if you try to range them they'll fly off, if you try to move thier cage arond a pasture (like meatie chickens are) they'll revolt and stop laying. Heck mine acted up for 2 weeks after we switched to a different color feeder.

quail wont free range like chickens. if you have some pen mates calling to the "free range" in my case escapes they may stick around to try and group back up.. this happend once when my coop door was left open. 5 got out and 5 got caught and put back in. your best bet is to have what saddina has. a rabbit cage like run. hope they go inside the hutch part like mine do. if not.. they prolly never will.. most people will tell you they lay when they feel they need to lay. doesnt matter where they are standing or sitting at the time.

Other States Game Wardens May View It As Illegal Capture Of Wild Speces.... The Results Are The Pretty Similar Except They Take Your Farm With This 1 As Well( If The Speces Is Native To Your Area)

Yet Others May View It As Improper Care For Domestically Raised Gamebird Speces Which Has Similar Resulst As The Previous 2 Listed But This 1 Gets You On The Tree Hugger Protest List ... You Horrible Animal Abuser (just Kidding... But Thats How The Tree Huggers Will See It) This 1 Works For Both Native And Non Native Speces

Either Way Gamebird Speces Dont Free Range

I like using things around the house that can have a top cut off and laid on it's side and filled with sand or shavings for any kind of hidey or dusty place to go for the little buggers. If I have a plastic container that I bought spinach in or some kind of cheap strawberry plastic holder I will even put those in with bedding in em. I also use a fake grass or fake "spider plant" to pin up over any of the above open container to give the element of "cover" for a Coturnix. I am reading up on papers I found that are ancient, on habitat and such.

Like the coffee can. Hubby can fill only so much with used brass.
