Quail Orphan?

How'd you know that it's a female? did you flip it over just like what ppurv326 said or just check its overall appearance?

I'm new to this one too and I want to check and compare what is better to start a chicken or a quail to breed and keep, though I have an experience in finch keeping- I don't know if they have a common ways of handling. Have to do some research I guess.

It's a 100% coturnix female nice girl looks in good health the black spots that trail down from the throat are an indicator of this they can also have rusty red as in this bird but the speckles are a give away, a cock would just have rusty red chest, she looks to be fully grown and should be laying soon if she isn't already.
My quail are in outdoor pens and are fed small layers pellets and corn plus millet and occasionally veg such as grated carrot and cabbage they are forever catching bugs in there too

Make sure you read the first topic of all on the Quail Forum topic list. The sticky has good info on sexing, behaviors, etc. And use the search funtion within the blue header line and type in any subject with Quail.

I'm told you could write a book with it....which made me think and begin to organize.

Yes, That's the basic reason why I ask. If have known I would not have asked anyway. The forum is new to me and I have not yet fully comprehended everything written within this forum for just a short time being here. Thanks for the advice, won't be asking any questions if I have not read anything about them here for now.
