Quail people must go to bed with the birds!

You mentioned going to bed with the birds....you have to if you get up with them. I awoke yesterday morning at 5:30 to a quail flying through my bedroom crashing into my mini blinds. The brooder room is next to my bedroom, guess one managed to escape and slip into the bedroom.

Mine make a nice racket each morning. Between the dog & the roos, someone wakes me up in the morning.

I have figured out how to persuade the roos not to wake me up quite so early, though. I make it nice and dark in their area until I'm ready for them to start their crowing wars.

They'll still crow from the bits of light seeping in. The real wars, though, don't start until they see much more light.

Haha...just noticed something!

Your "Rabbit" pen that you're using..I have a cage JUST like that...it's one of my button cages at the moment.

Wow! Those are some lucky Buttons 'cause this is a monstrous cage. It came with bunny. He's lived in it for several years. Well, actually, he had his own bedroom at the previous home. He has an area about 6x8 set up for him here -- a room sized area rug that is fenced off to keep him safe. I'm going to build him a BIG enclosure soon. Might start it tomorrow.

Yes, he came to me VERY well litter trained. You want to rig their hay up OVER their litter pan so that they sit in their litter pan while they eat their hay. That will encourage them to go in the right place. They often go to the bathroom while chewing hay. You'll have fewer "mistakes" if you rig things this way. Of course, doing this means that you must change their litter a lot more often since they spend more time in their litter pan.

Also, get a good sized cat litter pan - not one of the little corner bunny pans. This way, they are less likely to miss and go in the wrong place.

Most people I know who have bunnies say that they do not like hard floors. I covered the cement under my bunnies play area with an area rug. It's my GOOD area rug so you can tell I really like Rabbit! (Rabbit is actually his name, ROFL.)

I have a "small" two story rabbit hutch. The top story has two sections. One is wooden and doesn't have any drafts so the bunny/chicken can stay nice and warm and you can shut the wooden door if need be. The other side has wire on the bottom and on the side and it also has a ramp that goes down to the run underneath the top story. I can't wait to get rabbits again. I miss having them! I used to have 3 or was it 4?

The only thing about rabbits that bugged me was the way they "play dead" -- always scared the heck out of me when Annie would curl up around the water bowl the way he did. Got me every time, lol! Also, he humped my dog a bit more than he should have.
