Hello everbody I think im going to get some corturnix quail. I have already read the sticky and just have a few more questions.

1.I read they dont need roost is this true? Where do they sleep?
2.Do they need an egg box, or where do they lay their eggs?
3.Do they even need a coop, do they need to be locked inside at night?
4.Can they be kept on the ground or do they need to be in the air?
5.Are the wire cages ok or do they need something solid with bedding?

1.I read they dont need roost is this true? True. Where do they sleep? On the floor of the cage.

2.Do they need an egg box, or where do they lay their eggs? If the had a box they might use it. Mine just lay theirs in the corner by the waterer.

3.Do they even need a coop, do they need to be locked inside at night? Coop no but they do need protected from whatever predators you may have.

4.Can they be kept on the ground or do they need to be in the air? In the air is best in most cases.

5.Are the wire cages ok or do they need something solid with bedding? Mine are on .5" x 6" with some .5" x .5" under the waterer & feeder for easier standing & a bowl of sand to play in. I would have something for them to stand on & stretch there toes out.

Thanks for the help. Just a few more questions.

1.Whats cheaper or better building the cage or buying the cage?
2.Is a bought incubater better than a homemade one?
3.How many quail should I start out with and how big of a cage?

it makes me feel better when i get to do it myself. for $25 i can build 4 2'x2' cages. i made mine out of 1/2" HW cloth took and cut 3 8' peices cut one in half so its 1'x8' those are your sides the other 2 is the top and bottom. cut 5 peices 1'x2' those are your ends and deviders just clip them on place and cut in the door. takes about a hour to build it

Im only going to use them for eggs and meat.

Where could I buy an incubator and what kind is best?

For a cage would 2' wide 8' long work or 3' wide 6' long work and how tall should it be?

I saw this on youtube would this work?

both those sizes would work and it should be about 2" tall, that way they won't hurt themselves. Even when they can't fly, they can still jump really high. They bash their heads on the roof. I found that out the hard way, RIP Henry
