"Quail Thread-Hatching, Mutations, and everything quail related!!!"

dont first graders go with first graders and 10th grader with 10th grader but when all of them become adults they are mixed sort of with others I think you may get my point

I tried hatching 28-Bobwhite eggs and got 2-for my effort. I am still not sure how long incubation time is. Does any one know and also what temp is required?

NO! If one group has reached sexual maturity it will kill, scalp and eat the younger ones. I have had a colony do it. They were all guilty too. Covered in blood and quite proud of themselves, little brats. They then had to go to freezer camp because I was not keeping them after they had eaten another. What I do is put a dog kennel in my flight cage with the new birds in it. That way they can reach one another through the wire but can get out of reach also. It can take weeks but can be accomplished slowly.

I added three 6-7 week old hens to an established hen/cock pair, and another 6-7 week old hen to an established hens/cock trio. I was looking to get all my quail pens up to 3-4 hens per cock.

These were all brown coturnix. No real problems were encountered. Was I lucky? Or is it because they were Coturnix?

My last hatched group are close to laying age. When they start to lay I plan to up it to 4 hens per cock in all my pens.

Putting a bunch (100+?) jumbo brown coturnix eggs in the incubator today!

Good to know about adding new birds. The valley quail may or may not go in with the others.
